<p><strong>PART 1: The Problem</strong></p>
<p>Undeniably the United States has allowed the allopathic model of drugs and surgery to dominate the health landscape.  Does it work?  Sure it works great for crisis care.  Beyond that the effectiveness is questionable.  If the allopathic model truly produces questionable results, then why is it so popular? </p>
<p>The answer can be found in the nature of our culture.  People are quietly programmed toward certain behaviors.  Technology is the biggest programming culprit.  We are inundated with more information than ever before in history.  Much of that information however is advertising, paid propaganda.  It is very effective propaganda.  An analysis of statistics demonstrates both why it works so well, and also just how misleading it can be.</p>
<p>Pharmaceutical marketing is the business of advertising or otherwise promoting the sale of medications, drugs.  Pharmaceutical companies spend far more on marketing than on research.   In 2005 money spent on pharmaceutical marketing in the US was estimated at between $29.9 and $57 billion, while in Canada only $1.7 billion was spent in 2004.</p>
<p>Mass marketing directly to users of pharmaceuticals is banned in over 30 industrialized nations, but not in the U.S. and New Zealand.    Many patients will inquire about, or even demand a medication they have seen advertised on television.   It has been estimated that the average U.S. 18 year old has been exposed to 20, 000 hours of TV drug commercials.  In other words, advertising is programming us to want drugs.  In fact, Americans consume over half of all the drugs in the world at the rate of 25 million an hour.  This includes over 15 tons of aspirin a day.  Additionally, the elderly average 13 prescriptions per year.  </p>
<p>It appears that marketing works.  But, how do the medications work.  In the U.S. 60% of all drug related emergency room visits and 70% of all drug related deaths involve adverse reactions to prescription drugs.  In an average year aspirin will be responsible for 2,000 deaths.  Newsweek reported that adverse reactions from “properly prescribed drugs” are the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S.</p>
<p>If the allopathic system were working, then we would be the healthiest people on earth….  Or, at least close, right?  The statistics just do not support that viewpoint.  In fact a report from the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked the U.S. 37th overall in health care.  In a study that compared the U.S. to two-dozen other industrialized countries we have the highest infant mortality rate, and the lowest life expectancy for those over 60 years of age.  Another study ranked the U.S. 28th out of 39 industrialized nations in infant mortality rates.</p>
<p>Not only does the U.S. rank low in health statistics, it ranks at the very top in money spent to be healthy.  We spend 15% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on health care, $5400 for every man, woman and child in 2006.  And, 44% of that is tax money meaning you pay, whether or not you use it.  Switzerland was second at $3300 per person.</p>
<p>In the United States health care costs are the #1 cause of bankruptcy.  A 2009 study in the American Journal of Medicine “nearly 2 out of 3 bankruptcies stem from medical bills”. Unbelievably, in about 75% of those cases, the person who declared bankruptcy had health insurance.</p>

<p><strong>Part II: The Solution</strong></p>
<p>You are the product of everything you do, think, say, eat, and drink.  You are in control.  You can build a healthy you, or,  you can build a distressed and wellness challenged you.  You can determine how your genes express themselves.  Good or bad, wellness or sickness; the choice is yours. </p>
<p>When the brain does not comprehend your stress well enough it fails to deal with stress adequately.  That is when aches, pains, and even named conditions and diseases arise.  Then you must make a choice; drugs and surgery, or natural restoration of the body’s innate healing intelligence.  Chiropractic is natural restoration.</p>
<p>Chiropractic adjustments seek to restore vibration to the spine allowing the spine to communicate more efficiently with the brain.  When the spine loses its normal vibratory oscillation, a vertebral subluxation, then the brain loses the ability to comprehend the environment fully.  Your environment is made up of physical, chemical and emotional stresses.  These things include everything you do, think, say, eat, and drink.  Healthy spine, healthy brain, and chiropractic contributes to both.</p>
<p>Once you have been adjusted, then it is up to you to make lifestyle choices that support wellness.  Those lifestyle choices include everything you do, think, say, eat, and drink.  When you make poor choices stress once again overwhelms the brain.   But, just as drug commercials can program the mind; the good choices you make can become habits.  Then your mind becomes programmed to wellness.   </p>
<p>As Einstein said, “Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.”  So, write a fantastic program.  Imagine life to be everything you desire.  Imagine a strong, healthy mind and body.  Give your mind and body the nourishment they need to remain strong.  And, remember to get adjusted to allow the brain to fully take advantage of the great lifestyle choices you make.</p>
<p>Get adjusted, stay adjusted.  Trust your Innate Intelligence to protect you.  It is way bigger than the next “medical miracle.”  You are meant to be healthy.  That is the miracle of life.  That is my message.</p>

The human nervous system consists of a brain, a spinal cord, and all of the nerves that exit the spinal cord and travel throughout the body. Your nervous system controls every little thing that happens in your body. It controls every little thing that you observe and think. When the brain functions optimally, then your muscles, joints, organs and glands are able to function at a high level.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Chiropractic adjustments seek to restore a vibration to the spine that stimulates receptors on the joints of the spine to communicate more efficiently with the Brain. When the spine loses its normal vibratory oscillation, a vertebral subluxation, then the brain loses the ability to comprehend your environment fully. Your environment is made up of physical, chemical and emotional stresses, among other things. When the brain does not comprehend these stresses well enough, then it fails to deal with them adequately. That is when aches, pains, and even named conditions and diseases arise.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
So, simply put, the goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore the brain, and nervous system to optimal function. Then your brain will use your natural healing abilities to come up with the best possible solution to your stresses; and your aches, pains, and even named conditions and diseases. Healthy spine, healthy brain.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WHAT’S BAD FOR THE BRAIN</strong><br />
&nbsp;<br />
Unfortunately, the brain and nervous system needs more than chiropractic adjustments to thrive. Daniel Amen, a noted brain expert has noted that the “dinosaur syndrome” has overrun our society. The dinosaur syndrome is big body, small brain. The result is an epidemic of obesity and Alzheimer’s in the U.S. Here is a list of things that contribute to dinosaur syndrome:<br />
&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>Brain injuries are common. Many seem minor like falling when you are young, sports injuries; but others are obvious such as concussions, strokes, whiplash.</li>
<li>Alcohol and drugs are capable of destroying brain cells.</li>
<li>A diet high in sugar and processed white flour is pro-inflammatory leading to obesity and many named conditions and diseases.</li>
<li> Diabetes and hypertension cause increased blood pressure that leads to decreased blood to the brain. Without sufficient blood flow the brain withers.</li>
<li>Caffeine, nicotine and sleep apnea all deprive the brain of blood flow, thus oxygen deprivation. This can result in dehydration, addiction poor sleep, and increased cortisol.</li>
<li>Our daily life is filled with brain killing toxins in our cleaning products, paint, mold, foods we eat and much more.</li>
<li>Low hormone levels, including vitamin D, are also prevalent in our society and also negatively affect the brains ability to function.</li>
<li>Chronic stress, depression and ADHD all contribute to the dinosaur syndrome.</li>
<li>Exercise is not as common among children as it used to be, and it is not just the kids. Lack of exercise also has a negative effect on the brain.</li>
<li>Daniel Amen claims that even having “bad friends”, and unhealthy peer group is another detrimental factor to having a healthy brain.</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE BRAIN</strong><br />
&nbsp;<br />
The good news is, there are ways to overcome, and/or limit, the damage that has been done to our brains. With proper care the brain is capable of directing the nervous system to allow you to live a long and fully functional life. You have a great deal of control because we are born to be healthy. Here is a list of brain healthy activities:<br />
&nbps;</p>
<ul>
<li>Eat well. The brain consumes 20-30% of the calories you consume. This is not as easy as it sounds though. Just because a food is good for one person does not mean it is good for another. Diets need to be tailored for individuals. This is one of the most important things I do in my clinic.</li>
<li>Sleep well. Many people are under the false illusion that they need only 5-6 hours of sleep a night. They are usually wrong and this habit is often responsible for brain deterioration.</li>
<li>Learning is a wonderful tonic for the brain. Undertake new hobbies, read daily, and make sure you are challenging the brain to learn regularly.</li>
<li>Exercise regularly because studies show that increased strength correlates with a decreased incidence of Alzheimer’s. This is another important area of instruction in my clinic.</li>
<li>Keep your blood sugar balanced. This is really part of the first item in this list, but so important that it warrants its own mention. Processed foods are slow death for the brain, and by extension you.</li>
<li>Practice deleting your negative thoughts. Find a method such as meditation, prayer, EFT, visualization, or anything else that works for you to help in this area.</li>
<li>Make sure your peer group inspires and motivates you. Learn to say no to people and activities that drain your positive energy.</li>
<li>Get adjusted regularly. Give your brain the opportunity to get fresh input about the pathologically stressful environment in which you live. Then it will better comprehend how to make healthy adaptations to those stresses. Those adaptations are truly the keys to wellness.</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;<br />
Ultimately, your health is tied intimately to the decisions you make. Your behavior can either increase, or decrease brain health. So, ask your brain and your body, before you do or eat anything, “Is it good for my brain, or is it bad for my brain?” Alzheimer’s, depression, ADHD and many other conditions respond to a healthy lifestyle. As you age the margin for error shrinks. It is up to you; build reserves, or steal from them.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Get adjusted, stay adjusted. Trust your Innate Intelligence to protect you. It is way bigger than the next “medical miracle.” You are meant to be healthy. That is the miracle of life. That is my message.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>CHIROPRACTIC AND EXERCISE</p>

<p>Chiropractic adjustments are a method of getting the brain to view “your world” differently so that it can make the best possible adaptation to the stresses in your life.  You have probably noticed that sometimes stress does not seem to affect you.  At other times, however, stress can make you emotional, make you hurt, even make you sick.  When your spine is well-adjusted, though, then the brain is less likely to have a poor reaction to your stress.</p>
<p>There is more to it than that, however.  You need to have a lifestyle that supports your adjustment being as effective as possible.  One area of this support is exercise.  One of the most common complaints I hear is, “I just don’t have time to exercise.”</p>
<p>My answer is, “What if you could get a workout in 12 minutes, or less, that would have more benefit than getting out and running for an hour?”</p>
<p>Well it is possible.  The key is to use a method called high-intensity, or interval training. Most often these are done with cardio style exercises, but super-slow weight training can have the same effect.</p>
<p>There are reasons why high intensity training works.  Look no further than nature to help you understand.  Animals do not stretch, or jog, or do any other slow exercise.  This is because survival often depends on the ability to adapt quickly.  Slow exercise trains</p>
<p>adaptability out of a physiological system.  High intensity exercise uses more muscle fibers, and the more fibers in use the stronger a muscle becomes – and the more adaptable.</p>
<p>Just like animals in nature our survival depends on adaptability. While wild animals must adapt to physical threats more often, humans must adapt to physical emotional and chemical threats.  The better you adapt, then the better your odds of survival.  If you go back to the first paragraph you will be able to read how chiropractic adjustments are also an adaptation method.<em></em></p>
<p>Increased strength is not the only benefit of high intensity exercise.  With a high-fat, low-carb diet and interval training you boost your metabolism.  Then there are less food cravings, fatigue, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease; in a word, less metabolic syndrome.</p>
<p>Additionally, high intensity training programs increase your production of human growth hormone (HGH).  HGH is the youth hormone, and critical to graceful aging.</p>
<p>When you begin your interval training you may not be capable of putting the amount of stress on your system you need to get all the benefits of high intensity training. In that case, you may need to train up to 5 times a week.  As strength and endurance improve your exercises need to be so intense that you can barely complete them.  When this happens it is necessary to decrease the frequency, to no more than 3 times a week.</p>
<p>With high intensity training recovery time is crucial.  Without recovery time interval training becomes unproductive.  The key is to learn to listen to the body, to recognize when you are still in recovery phase.  You know you are ready to go again when you have restless energy and a strong urge for physical activity.</p>
<p>Earlier, I noted that most high intensity training is done with cardio exercises.  But, you can use weights. It is normally recommended that you use four or five basic movements for your exercise set.   Here is how to turn regular weight lifting exercises into high intensity training:</p>
<ol>
<li>Lift the weight slowly and gradually. The first inch should take about two seconds. This takes away momentum and focuses the involved muscles on the exercise.  The full movement should take 7-10 seconds.</li>
<li><em>Smoothly reverse direction and</em> lower the weight back down slowly.</li>
<li>Repeat until exhaustion.  You should be shaking and unable to complete the next repetition at this point.  The weight should be heavy enough that you can complete no more than 8 repetitions.  At the end of a set when you can no longer move the weight without jerking hold it in place for 5 seconds.</li>
<li>Immediately go to the next exercise.  When you have completed all 4 or 5 exercises, then you start all over.  If you are in shape you can do 3 sets, but you may want to start with one set.</li>
</ol>
<p>The slow movement accesses the maximum number of muscle fibers for strength, and the continuous lifting (no rest between exercises) accomplishes the cardio aspect of the workout.  An added benefit to this type of weight lifting is that it is less stress on the joints.</p>
<p>If you are doing cardio type interval training you may need to start out with intervals of up to 2 minutes.  The length will vary with your level of fitness.  By the end of your interval you should be gasping for air.  The muscles should begin to burn during each repetition.  The better shape you are in, the faster you will recover between repetitions.</p>
<p>Once you are in shape, the total workout may take less than 10 minutes; and have a greater fitness effect than an hour-long cardio workout.  An in-shape workout will consist of a short warm-up, eight 30 second sprints with 45-60 second recovery times, and a short cool down period.  The alternate interval training workout I use is 20 second reps with 10 second recovery time.</p>
<p>If you decide to begin a program of high intensity interval training it is most important to start out slow if you are not currently in good shape.  This may mean starting with only 2-3 reps, and longer rest periods between reps. It is also advisable to consult with a doctor before beginning your exercise program.</p>
<p>Of course, I am going to recommend that you consult with me.  Not only can I give you advice on an exercise program, I can also provide you with specific chiropractic adjustments.  In a world where your survival depends on the ability of your nervous system to adapt to ever-increasingly present (and possibly pathological) levels of chemical, emotional and physical stress chiropractic is a necessity.  The adjustment provides your nervous system with a fresh perspective on those stresses.  The fresh perspective enables you to better adapt to today’s pathological levels of stress.</p>
<p>Adaptation is the key to remaining healthy, and it can only happen with an optimally functioning nervous system.  Chiropractic, more than any other health intervention is designed to elevate the nervous system to a state of optimal functionality.</p>

<p>The birth of a child is a wonderful and miraculous event. What happens after birth may be even more of a miracle. A child’s nervous system immediately begins to learn. It responds to the world within, and without. Patterns, acquired habits, are responses to the world’s stimuli. The developing nervous system does not distinguish between a good and a bad stimulus. A bad stimulus can cause an unproductive, or inefficient, learned response. A bad stimulus could be an injury, bad food, even a harsh word from a loved one.</p>
<p>As a chiropractor I use specific adjustments to normalize the programming errors of the nervous system. Chiropractors call those errors a Vertebral Subluxation Complex (subluxation). A chiropractic adjustment removes the subluxation to change the patient’s programming errors. Then the abnormal habit can be replaced with a habit that is normal.</p>
<p>Many birth procedures cause Traumatic Birth Syndrome (TBS) which often causes a subluxation. With a subluxation the normal vibratory motion in the spine is reduced or stopped. This interrupts the communication between the body and the brain. The result can be many negative health consequences for a child. A chiropractic adjustment restores the vibration, and the communication between the brain and the body.</p>
<p>There are many signs of TBS and subluxation in an infant. APGAR is a numerical value assigned to the newborn immediately after birth, and again at 5 minutes. An APGAR score of less than a 10 generally indicates birth trauma. If an infant fusses when the head is turned a particular side to nurse, or holds the head in the same position most of the time, or cries too much it indicates the presence of subluxation. The majority of health issues seen in adults have their origins in childhood.</p>
<p>Many parents wonder how a chiropractor can detect subluxation in an infant or a child. If the child can stand I evaluate posture and show the parent the deviations. With the child on its belly I bend and lift each leg while touching a bone near the waistline. This lets me see whether the joint moves properly. When it does not I have the parent touch and feel the difference from side to side.</p>
<p>Nearly 100% of young children will initially have restricted motion in their pelvis. That restricted motion sets off a cascade of events that slowly erode the health of the child. Common complaints are growing pains, leg pains, restless leg syndrome, hip pains, foot pains, scoliosis, IBS, colitis, digestive difficulties, breathing problems, elimination problems and hormonal problems as they mature.</p>
<p>It is extremely common to find that a child’s neck bends to one side much more than it does to the other. This is another sign of subluxation, and the parent usually has no problem feeling this when I show them. With this finding it is common to have, or have had, a history of ear infections. Usually it is the right side that will not bend, and the right side is also usually the site of ear infections.</p>
<p>If the child is old enough to lie still I will check leg lengths, both with the child on their belly and their back. This, again, is something that the parent can usually observe.</p>
<p>After this brief examination the child is adjusted. The adjustment will be a combination of hands-on adjusting, instrument adjusting, and vibration. Everything is low force. It is much easier to restore the normal vibratory motion into a child’s spine than it is to restore motion to most adults.</p>
<p>After the chiropractic adjustment I go back and show the parent the changes that have happened since the exam. Leg lengths change, motion is restored, and sometimes posture is immediately impacted. These are indications that subluxation is removed, that the nervous system has adapted and is allowing new habits to develop.</p>
<p>The adjustment is the most important part of a child’s visit to the chiropractor, however a family’s lifestyle choices may influence the child’s ability to “hold” their adjustment. During childhood cells and organs are growing at lightning speed. Nutrients key this growth. Most problems we face as adults start out in childhood, and many are avoidable if we avoid poor nutrition. Junk food and fast food are at the top of the poor nutrition pyramid.</p>
<p>Inactivity has contributed mightily to an epidemic in obesity. The result is pain, illness, learning disorders and even depression at much higher levels than ever before.</p>
<p>We need to look at the way kids eat, breathe, sleep, exercise, and how they feel about themselves. We are part of a culture that is not working and causes distress. But, when the body is free of subluxation the nervous system works efficiently. When a healthy nervous system is complemented by nutrition and exercise our children have the opportunity to maximize their potential and not become another statistic.</p>
<p>It is up to the parents to make the choices that support wellness and a thriving child leading a maximized life. An astounding 9 of 10 children eat junk food every week. Not long ago only adults suffered from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, cancer, and other degenerative illnesses. Now they are common in teenagers. Our world is more toxic than ever before. Heavy metals, medications, aspartame, processed whey, MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, are crossing the blood brain barrier and entering into our personal computer, the brain. It is a parent’s responsibility to minimize the risk of these things.</p>
<p>Chiropractic does not cure anything. Just as we cannot fight darkness, but must turn on the light; we cannot fight disease, but must turn on life. The chiropractic adjustment turns on life! It restores function to our personal computer, the brain. So, have your children checked and adjusted by a chiropractor today. The rest is up to you.</p>

<p>It  is that time of year again! No, not the Holiday season, the Flu season!  Let’s compare the message of allopathic medicine (the drug and surgery  model), to that of chiropractic .</p>
<p>The drug and surgery model sees  you as a machine that needs their drugs and surgery just to exist, and  to fight and prevent disease. It leads us to believe we have no real  immune system.  A long time ago it was believed that demons entered our  body to make us ill. Today we call the demons bacteria and viruses. </p>
<p>All over town there are signs in grocery market windows, ads  in magazines, ads on television, and the radio. They all urge us to get  vaccinated against the flu. This year they have even come up with a  “special” flu vaccine for the elderly.</p>
<p>Have you ever asked yourself, “Who is paying for all of this very expensive advertising?” The  answer is us, you and me. Our taxes support the pharmaceutical  companies through subsidies, grants, and tax breaks.  The “medical  community” has attempted to convince us that it knows what’s best, and  that we should blindly accept the pronouncements of M.D.’s and drug  companies.</p>
<p>The government-financed National Institute of Health  (NIH), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and health departments at  the state and local levels, are deliberately misleading us. They have  convinced our government to use our tax dollars to purchase, and then  sell us flu vaccines. Every year fewer people voluntarily get the vaccine, and the surplus must be marketed.</p>
<h3>My Mission: To  communicate the possibilities life presents when the nervous system is  free of interference. To show the world the health- depriving effects of  the Vertebral Subluxation, and the role of the Chiropractic Adjustment  in the removal of nervous system interference.</h3>
<p>To  make sure Chiropractic assumes its proper place in the health care  world as a leader in the movement to experience the full genetic  potential of individuals, of families, of the human species.</p>
<p>The  true issue here is the freedom of choice. The government subsidized  allopathic system takes health care choices from us. Overly expensive  health insurance funnels people into the drug and surgery model, a model  that should primarily be reserved for crisis care. Wellness and  prevention health models, like chiropractic are discouraged by  exorbitant co- payments and limited visits. How is this freedom of  choice, how is this a just use of your money?</p>
<p>I believe in freedom of choice. Research, and then get the flu vaccine if you want, but also consider the chiropractic message.</p>
<p>Chiropractic  knows that health comes not from a vaccine or any other drug, or  surgery. Health is from Above-down, Inside-out.  This means that the  power that made the body can heal the body because we are imprinted with  Innate Intelligence that is expressed by our nervous system. Allow the  chiropractic adjustment to remove interference in the form of vertebral  subluxation and you allow the nervous system to function, which allows  the immune system to function.</p>
<p>How do you want to celebrate the holidays:</p>
<p>Full  of fear that you may be attacked by the modern day demons of bacteria  and virus? Waging wars and fighting stealthy conditions and diseases?</p>
<p>Or, filled with wonder at the glorious and remarkable innate ability of the body to self-correct, adapt, learn and grow into ever- expanding states of wellness, vitality, and possibilities?</p>
<p>Ever-expanding states of wellness, vitality, and possibilities is  exactly what chiropractic offers. Remember that when you are under  wellness chiropractic care, your body’s wisdom, your Innate  Intelligence, becomes freer to express health. When you are properly  adjusted your nervous system can better comprehend the pathological  stresses of modern society. Nervous system comprehension allows you to better  adapt to those stresses, and to come up with the best possible solution  (at any moment in time) to your health challenges.</p>
<p>I dream that  every person in the world will be under chiropractic care. I know of the  importance of newborns and expectant mothers getting adjusted. Yet, I  would never want to force anyone to get adjusted. The allopathic system,  though, believes it has the right to force vaccinations and treatments  on others.<br />
