Ten Great Healthy Foods

It needs to be noted that no matter how good a food is, it may not be right for everyone. The development of each person’s immune system will determine how many food sensitivities they have. Poor immune system development can cause a person to react negatively to the healthiest of foods. So, take this list with a grain of salt, listen to your body, and get tested for your sensitivities. Your body will love you for that! In our office I offer a full spectrum clinical kinesiology assessment of body systems, allergy sensitivities, toxins and more on the initial exam. This is then used to develop your ideal food plan. Call today for an appointment, 509-327-4373.  Berries – Fruits have sugar. Berries have less sugar than other fruits, and are high in fiber. Need a better memory? Blueberries increase memory and berries in general are powerful antioxidants, and may even have anti-cancer...

Five Foods That Cause Damage That Leads to Stroke

Recent statistical analyses name stroke as the third leading cause of death in the U.S. There were almost 800,000 strokes in the U.S. in 2013, causing 140, 000 deaths. Foods are a major factor in the incidence of stroke, probably the most important factor. I believe the five worst damage causing foods that may lead to stroke are: Cookies, crackers, chips, other mass produced junk foods – Theses foods are loaded with trans fats/ hydrogenated oils that solidify at room temperature and do not require refrigeration. They may be labelled partially hydrogenated and are found in margarine, junk foods, frozen foods, salad dressings, frozen potatoes, and more. Fried fast foods have the greatest concentration of trans fats. Trans fats block arteries, promote inflammation, and lower good cholesterol. Avoid fast-foods and read food labels before buying packaged foods. Learn to bake your own healthy snacks. Smoked and processed meats – Sausages, bacon,...

What Is the Best Diet?

When it comes to diets there is a lot of band wagon jumping. It is certainly easy to get excited about a diet when you find it is working for you. For many people many diets will work in the short term. Early on motivation and discipline are often high. Most people who have become very out of shape can have initial success with any diet. The true test of a diet, however, is its sustainability and long term benefits. What follows are what I believe are the most important factors when it comes to long-term success in the diet world. The first factor is to realize that diet is possibly not a good word to use. The word diet conjures negative connotations to a lot of people. In this paper, every time I write diet please replace diet with whatever words come to mind when you think of eating as...

Splenda vs. Your Health

Splenda, also known as sucralose, is the unhappy accident step-child of a failed chemistry experiment. College laboratory scientists in London were attempting to create a new insecticide using sugar and a poison. The poison was sulfuryl chloride, which ended up being three chlorine molecules in the Splenda that is so popular today. Chlorides are found in nature, including in food and salt. Chlorine is a toxic gas used to kill harmful organisms in swimming pools. When you eat or drink Splenda, you are directly supplying the cells in your body with a highly volatile and toxic halogen gas. Chlorine is so deadly it was used in WWI as the first chemical warfare weapon. Organaclorine is a chemistry classification of organic compounds that have one or more covalently bonded chlorine atoms. This happy family includes several of man’s most toxic failed experiments including banned, or phased out, chemicals like PCB’s, DDT, chloroform,...

Sugars and the Glycemic Index

Sugar Facts: Sugar depresses the immune system. Americans consume an average of 150 bags of sugar in a year. Lots of sugar triggers insulin production. Guess who else loves insulin? Cancer cells. Sugar causes cancer cells to divide so the number of cancer cells grows. Sugar contributes to obesity because the excess in the body is turned to triglycerides which the fat cells ingest. Fat cells have a huge appetite and will consume triglycerides until they are bursting at the seams. The bigger your fat cells, the bigger you become.         Types of Sugar: Glucose – Glucose is the simple sugar made by the body through digestion of carbohydrates. It is the body’s chief source of energy. Sometimes glucose is called dextrose. Sucrose – Sucrose is what we commonly refer to as table sugar. It is made from highly processed sugar cane or sugar beets. The composition of sucrose is a combination of glucose...
